Jato Communications Joins the Vitria Business Network

Fast-growing communications provider speeds time to market using Vitria ebusiness platform to electronically bond with DSL supply chain partners

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 21, 2000 -- Vitria Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:VITR), a leading ebusiness platform provider, today announced that Jato Communications Corporation, a leading provider of high-speed Internet-based products and services, has joined the Vitria Business Network (VBN.) By joining the VBN, Jato will be able to dramatically shorten the lead-time and cost required to electronically bond with Internet Service Providers (ISP's), local carriers, modem suppliers and other members of the DSL supply chain. The VBN will enable Jato to quickly enter the fast-growing DSL market with a differentiated level of service and to quickly bring to market new services and products sourced internally or from external business partners.

The Vitria Business Network (VBN) provides the enabling technology platform and the infrastructure services that speed the formation of business partnerships, accelerate the introduction of new service providers into ready-made markets, and support quick and easy electronic bonding between trading partners within and across industries. Members of the VBN use Vitria's ebusiness platform to conduct business electronically (or "electronically bond") with any Vitria-enabled exchange or hub using open Internet standards. Electronic bonding provides the ability for members to automatically link their business processes over the Internet, enabling automatic, system-to-system exchange of business information and transactions in real time.

"The VBN is an excellent vehicle to accelerate our entry into the DSL market," said Terri Compton, COO of Jato Communications, Inc. "The VBN will help us establish electronic bonds with our DSL supply chain partners, enabling us to provision and activate new services much faster than using traditional phone and fax collaboration."

"Jato is a definitive example of what the Vitria Business Network is all about -- allowing new business relationships to form at Internet speed, as and when required, without the inertia and complexity of traditional paper-based business relationships" said JoMei Chang, CEO and president of Vitria. "We believe the rapid formation of fluid and dynamic supply chain networks is the future of ebusiness, and we are delighted to welcome Jato as a founding member of the VBN."
