Best's Review
March 17, 2003
Vitria, which provides business process integration solutions, recently announced that Humana Inc. has gone live with its Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 compliance architecture and is processing 837 professional claim transactions, based on Vitria's BusinessWare integration platform and the Vitria Collaborative Application for HIPAA.
The architecture enables Louisville, Ky. -based Humana to comply with the government HIPAA mandates more quickly and cost effectively, in addition to allowing the company to leverage the solution for efficiency, flexibility and cost avoidance/reduction in claims processing using Business Process Management and Electronic Data Interchange, Vitria said in a statement.
Humana required a business partner that could execute on improving the claims transaction processes within the existing information technology environment while meeting the federal requirements for HIPAA compliance.
Humana is the first national payer to accept HIPAA-standard claims transaction actions, according to Vitria. Trading partners will submit HIPAA transactions through the same infrastructure. Plans are for external partners to interact with Humana using the Vitria-based system to help improve the timeliness, consistency and accuracy of the claims process.
