5 Concept Applications using Vitria’s IoT Analytics Value Chain

In our recent blog “Goodyear understands the Analytics Value Chain,” we discussed how Jim Euchner at The Goodyear Tire Company has developed a “product extends to service” framework that is very complementary concept to the value chain concept we use in IoT Analytics here at Vitria.

We were so enthused about Jim’s ideas that we have taken the initiative to apply Jim’s ideas to a few industries and use cases to show how it is applicable to a wide range of companies and industries. We have written short ‘concept application’ pieces for several key scenarios:

  • Airline/Aerospace manufacturers such as Boeing looking to sell value-added services with their planes
  • Jet engine manufacturers such as Rolls-Royce who are changing their business model from one based on major capital purchases by airlines into a “pay by the flight hour” service-based model.
  • Heavy equipment manufacturers like Caterpillar who are seeking to add value for their customers by offering their products on a number of hours’ service basis – similar to Rolls-Royce’s service for jet engine flying hours.
  • IT Hardware and equipment providers like Hewlett-Packard focused on changing their business model from one of constant hardware upgrades to a print/pages printed model where the customer is paying a service charge.
  • Quick Serve restaurants looking to transform their offerings into a long-term service for their regular customers vs. a transaction-only customer relationship.

All of these adaptations depend on the ability to measure and predict product usage over time. The analytics to support those predictions require a unified IoT analytics platform like Vitria’s that can offer the insight and recommended actions that support the service for the customer. Our thanks to Jim Euchner at Goodyear for his insights at the IoT Evolution event – his framework is a great complement to Vitria’s Analytics Value Chain concept.
