Sunrise and Vitria Win Silver at First Annual EAI Forum Awards in Switzerland

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 12, 2004 -- Vitria (Nasdaq: VITR), a leading provider of business process integration solutions, today announced that sunrise, the leading independent telecommunications provider in Switzerland, and Vitria were awarded a silver medal at the 1st Annual EAI Forum Switzerland 2004 held from Oct. 26-29th in Zurich. IIR Germany GmbH, the show organizer, announced sunrise as first runner-up for the Best EAI Project award for the company?s advanced mobile services order management and provisioning system, a solution built on the Vitria:BusinessWare™ business process integration platform.

Launched in 2001 as the brand name used by TDC Switzerland AG, sunrise has grown to be Switzerland?s second largest telecom company with more than 2.6 million customers. To achieve this growth in a highly saturated market, sunrise maintains a sharp focus on increasing customer loyalty, placing great emphasis on customer care. A key growth area for the company has been in the mobile phone market, which now represents around 60 percent of sunrise?s revenue. As the company?s provisioning process for mobile services grew more complex, sunrise turned to Vitria to build a new system that would offer end-to-end visibility into the provisioning process, significantly reduce provisioning failures, and create a tighter, better integrated order management process overall.

When building the new system, sunrise took advantage of Vitria?s sophisticated Business Process Management (BPM) functionality to automate all of the processes associated with the provisioning of mobile services, including SIM card activation, call forwarding, mailbox set-up, message retrieving, fax transmission and receipt, etc. After removing provisioning inefficiencies, sunrise then used Vitria?s BPM capabilities to improve its mobile order management process. For example, today customers can shift from a prepaid service contract (sunrise pronto) to a fixed contract (postpaid) quickly and easily; one of the most time-consuming processes service providers struggle with today.

"The business success sunrise has enjoyed is directly attributable to their intelligent use of technology, with Vitria:BusinessWare as a cornerstone of their strategy," said Dale Skeen, founder and CEO, Vitria. "It?s gratifying to see this innovative company receive this level of industry-wide recognition. The judging process for this award is known to be very rigorous. Taking the silver medal is an accomplishment that should be interpreted as further proof that BPM and EAI deliver real, tangible business results," added Skeen.

The award in Switzerland is the second EAI Forum Award this year won jointly by Vitria and a customer. At the 6th Annual EAI Forum 2004 in Germany last May, Vitria and DaimlerChrysler Bank received first place for Best EAI Project for DCB?s "InTraDe" system, a solution built on Vitria:BusinessWare that automates and optimizes complex financial business processes and delivers real-time analysis of business performance.
