Director or Senior Director of Product Management
Job Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Vitria is looking for a leader in Product Management with experience in software enterprise, BPM and/or SOA domains. This person will report directly to the Senior V.P. of Product Development. In this role, you’ll develop and own the overall 3-year product vision, strategy and roadmap.
Job Roles (Duties & Responsibilities)
- Own Customers -- Be a Customer Expert and Advocate
- Establish product management processes for establishing deep relationship with customers
- Acquire deep customer knowledge
- Conduct primary and secondary market research as needed to translate customer needs into customer use cases and product requirements.
- Balance customer needs, business objectives, technology, competition, market trends and internal resources against schedule constraints in determining the product roadmap.
- Own Products – Be a product expert and evangelist
- Evangelize products within engineering, marketing, field, press, customers & prospects
- Produce PRD’s if required. This will include extensive User Experience requirements specification
- Own product User Experience and manage a team focused on this.
- Own product lines with no owners on interim or permanent basis
- Work closely with the teams who implement Vitria products to understand how products are actually used in the field and to translate these needs into use cases and product requirements.
- Build strong relationships with engineering and other (field and offshore) development organizations
- Work closely with engineering architects, CTO, and Engineering/Product Development teams to prioritize and triage product requirements to produce effective, detailed and realistic product roadmaps and release plans.
- Build strong relationship with product marketing
- Work closely with product marketing to ensure successful research efforts to investigate market needs. Competitive positioning to ensure the accurate and timely product capability and strategy information is available when needed for product launches, sales trainings and promotional events and programs.
- Track competitive product capabilities and their core technologies; and assess impact of product roadmap while clearly communicating this to marketing and sales.
- Provide timely and comprehensive information to the marketing communications team to enable the development of marketing collateral and programs.
- Continue and improve relationship with field. Work closely with field to develop prospects
- The ideal candidate will be expected to travel up to 25% of the time.
Job Requirements (Technical skills, years of relevant experience, education, certification, etc.):
- Minimum of a BA/BS Computer Science or related technical degree required.
- MBA, Masters, or Ph. D. is a plus but not required
- Minimum of 10 years experience in the high-tech industry.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in Product Management focused in the enterprise software space
- Strong technical “mojo” required with prior hands-on software development experience and intimate familiarity with the full Software Development Lifecycle
- SOA experience
- Deep knowledge in Application Services (Websphere, Weblogic, JBoss, and etc).
- BPEP knowledge is highly desirable.
- Experience required in one or more of the following areas such as Business Intelligence, Business Process Management, Enterprise applications such as CRM, ERP, Supply Chain
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and be adaptive in a fast-paced environment
- High energy, strong team player with a good sense of humor
- Demonstrated experience working with broad cross-functional teams with ability to sell ideas and plans to internal constituencies, executives, customers, commercial team, analysts, and partners
- Excellent interfacing skills in front of customers, prospects, sales meeting, tradeshows and executives
